AWARD IN SWIMMING TEACHING

The STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming qualifies teachers to instruct 12 non-swimmers through to improver participants.

​

This qualification is for those keen to work with children and adults, helping them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment.

​

No experience of working with children or teaching swimming lessons is required prior to undertaking this qualification.

​

The award course may appeal to those interested in pursuing a career within the leisure industry and to those already employed within a leisure environment who are looking to progress their career. Also to those who are already working as a baby and pre-school swimming teacher who wish to offer lessons to beginner participants alongside their current baby and pre-school classes

STA Baby and Pre School Award

CERTIFICATE IN SWIMMING TEACHING

Swimming teachers are able to seek employment in a wide variety of leisure facilities including private health clubs and school swimming pools through to large local authority leisure centres. As a Certificate level swimming teacher, you would be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons teaching non-swimmer through to advanced participants.

​

You will be equipped to teach a range of aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence, swimming strokes, water safety, diving and  competitive starts and turns. You would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment is safe and promote a positive teaching and learning environment for swimmers.

​

This course is available to swimming teachers who hold the STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming who wish to teach advanced participants and advanced swimming skills.

BABY AND PRE-SCHOOL
TEACHER

As a baby and pre-school teacher you will be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons.

​

Teaching babies, toddlers and their accompanying adults a range of basic aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, submersion and basic swimming strokes. You will be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment is safe and promote a positive experience for both child and adult.

​

There is no experience of working with children or teaching swimming lessons required prior to the course although some experience within either environment may be an advantage.

​

This qualification often appeals to parents looking for a career that fits in around their childcare commitment. Those already employed within a leisure environment who are keen to progress their career or diversify. As well as those who are already working as a swimming teacher who wish to offer lessons to babies and pre-schoolers alongside their current beginner classes

PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TEACHER

This qualification is for those keen to work with people who have additional needs in mainstream lessons or in specific SEND swimming lessons and help them to develop, both as swimmers and individuals in the aquatic environment. 

​

People with disabilities swimming teachers are able to seek employment in a wide variety of leisure facilities including private health clubs, school swimming pools through to large local authority leisure centres.

​

As a people with disabilities swimming teacher, you would be responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a series of progressive and fun swimming lessons teaching learners a range of basic aquatic and safety skills such as floating, rotation, water confidence, swimming strokes. As with all teacher courses you would be responsible for ensuring the lesson area and appropriate equipment was safe and promote a positive learning environment.
